San Diego Coastkeeper host's June Signs of the Tide event:

Breaking the Barriers to Sustainable Development - A bus Tour

more info and registration here

Sustainable development is a process that supports both human development and the ability of natural systems to continue to thrive. The use of Low Impact Development (LID) is a sustainable development practice that mimics natural processes to treat and control stormwater. LID can help designers, architects, planners, and engineers design projects that better manage stormwater runoff and improve water quality.

If you are looking to incorporate these features into your next project or would like to find out more about adding them to an already existing property, jump on board the bus with us!

We have organized a bus tour with Think Blue to connect you with the engineers and architects behind three successful low impact development projects.

The Tour will feature the Balboa Mesa Shopping Center swales and retention areas, Cabrillo Heights Park rain gardens, and the San Diego County Operations Center swales and green roof. Conversations will center on the challenges, solutions and benefits of each feature of low impact development design.

Speakers include:

  • John Ziebarth from Ziebarth Associates who designed the low impact development features in the parking lot at Balboa Mesa Shopping Center
  • Andrea Demitch from the City of San Diego Transportation & Storm Water Department who will discuss features at Cabrillo Heights Park
  • Matt Semic from Latitude 33 Consulting to discuss the bioswales and other LID projects at the County operations building

The first stop will be at the Balboa Mesa Shopping Center, south of Balboa Avenue, near the Kohl’s.  After a tour, talk and Q&A with Mr. Ziebarth, we will load the bus at approximately 9:30 a.m. to head to Cabrillo Heights Park. We will return to the Balboa Mesa Shopping Center by noon.

Who should attend? Architects, engineers, developers, project managers, planners, HOA Members, business improvement districts, business groups, property managers and maintenance districts.
