Deciphering the Energy Alphabet Soup: The Importance of Different Energy Metrics

Sponsored by SDG&E Energy Innovation Center

Session Overview: Do you know which certification will benefit you and your building? This course will review several rating systems for sustainability, health & wellness, and Zero Net Energy (ZNE) specifically focusing on the energy component of each of them.  This session will also include an interactive exercise where we'll review a sample building in San Diego and identify how the rating systems and ZNE definitions could apply.

As green building certifications grow in range of certifiable sustainable systems, taking this course could help you in deciphering which rating system is right for you.

Key learning objectives are:

  1. Identify sustainability and health & wellness rating systems with market recognition in the US today.
  2. Analyze how to set metric-based energy goals.

  3. Identify what rating system is a best fit for building types.

  4. Understand the nuances of how energy is treated in each rating system reviewed.

This class is eligible for continuing education units from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
