Biomimicry: It's Nature's Way

Designing Resilient Cities: Looking to Nature for building Performance Standards

In the face of climate change cities and their individual buildings face the challenge of how to be more resilient and our current building standards provide little guidance for climate adaptation and mitigation. Groups of designers around the world have turned to nature and ecosystem services to reconsider how community services interact with their ecosystem to develop a new model for cities. Chris will discuss this larger concept and provide a case study of how these strategies can impact building design with a case study in New York City.

Chris Garvin is an accomplished practitioner and active voice in the sustainable design community. Since moving to New York in 1998, he has specialized in environmental architecture and materials research, while serving on numerous advisory boards and in organizations that advocate for sustainability in design.
