Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego

GAP Project

The U.S. Green Building Council-San Diego (USGBC-SD) is excited for the opportunity to support another local nonprofit by lending a hand on the path to sustainability and energy efficiency strategies at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego (RMHCSD) facility.

Over the course of ten months, volunteers will evaluate operational, technological and design solutions that can increase the building's energy, water and waste efficiency as well as improve indoor environmental quality and well being of the occupants.  The GAP Team will help uncover a pathway to developing a plan of action and funding sources for efficiency projects identified through a previous energy audit and feasibility study.  The goals for the RMHCSD project are to reduce energy and water usage by over 25% and to develop internal sustainability policies that will set the facility on the path to LEED O+M certification.

“The Green Assistance Program has been crucial in allowing me to take knowledge learned in the LEED classroom environment and apply it to an actual project like the LEED certification of the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. There is no better way, in my opinion, to get hands-on experience while learning necessary, cutting edge, sustainable strategies.”  Robert Carr, GAP Volunteer
